Principles of Engineering, PLTW

  • Grades: 10, 11, 12 

    Principles of Engineering, POE, is a course that focuses on the application of engineering concepts. This course is part of the PLTW Engineering curriculum. The class looks at the use of technology, math, and scientific ideas throughout the entire engineering process. This hands‐on course has students working on a variety of engineering projects including work with simple machines, bridge design, programming, statistical analysis, and robotics. Students are exposed to several engineering fields such as material design, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering. The activities in class are designed to have students work in groups and use modern technology to develop solutions for engineering problems. 
     
    Prerequisites: C or better in Geometry or Teacher Recommendation
    • Credits: 1 credit per semester, 2 semesters
    • Counts as a Directed Elective or Elective for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors diplomas
    • Qualifies as a Quantitative Reasoning course for the General, Core 40, AHD, and THD diplomas
    • Dual Credit (DESN 104 through Ivy Tech - 3 credits!)
