Mr. Joe Akers

Mr. Akers began teaching in 1997. He joined the Noblesville High School staff in 2007. 
He is a graduate of Indiana University, with a B.A. in Telecommunications/Broadcast Journalism and a B.A. in English Education. He also has an Masters from the Indiana University School of Journalism in Bloomington.
Prior to coming to NHS, Mr. Akers worked as a television news producer in Indianapolis and Columbus, and he also worked as a reporter for the Indianapolis Star.
 
Mr. Akers currently teaches Student Media/Broadcasting, Newspaper I/II/III and Newswriting at NHS.  He is the adviser for NHS News, NHS's student broadcasting program, and the Mill Stream, NHS's student newspaper.
 
He was named the 2019 Woman's Press Club of Indiana Journalism Adviser of the Year and was the 2019 National Federation of Press Women's National Adviser Award Winner.
 
He is a Teacher Consultant/Associate Director of the Hoosier Writing Project, a site of the National Writing Project, and he is also a Certified Journalism Educator with the Journalism Education Association.
