Reading Workshop:  All of the anchor charts that I make for class and mini-lessons will be posted on Clever for the students to use at any time.  They can use these at home when they are reading.  We finished up learning how to use context clues.  We also started how to ask questions as we read.  We are learning the difference between questions that help us clarify the text and questions that help us think deeper about the text.  The students have been asking some really strong questions.  We will work more on asking and answering these questions next week.

We reviewed 6 test taking tips before we started taking the test over Destiny's gift today.  The tips are on my Clever page.  I'm having the students use them every time they take a test.  We did the first 4 questions together so the students get used to how to answer questions.  We will finish the test on Monday.

We will also be reading the story "Pop's Bridge" from our Journey's book.  We will have a test on Friday over the story.

Writing workshop:        We started writing leads this week.  The students are working on using strong action verbs and adjectives in their writing.  We are working hard to try and describe what is happening as though they are watching a movie.

Word work:    Spelling words this week are r controlled vowel sounds like air.  The students can study their words and patterns on Spelling City if they want.  It is located in Clever.

Math:  Rounding and elapsed time were the focus this past week.     Next week we will focus on foundational multiplication skills.  We will also have our unit 1 math test on Friday.

Addition and Subtraction Facts:  Students have been given addition and subtraction fact triangles to study at home.  Moby max "fact fluency" and "Xtra Math" are other good places to practice the facts.  There are also websites on my Clever page that students can use to help study their facts.

Free Apps:    Math cards and math fact master: speed math are free apps that can help students study addition, subtraction, mult., and division facts.
