  • This newsletter is written for the coming week of October 25th.

Reading Workshop:   This past week we got into our mystery unit.  We started reading our books and paying close attention to clues and suspects.  Our goal is to try to figure out the crime before the crime solvers do.  We worked on taking notes to help us understand what is happening.   Next week we will dive deeper into making strong predictions.  We are working on making precictions using information from the text and explaining why the examples fit our predictions.

Stamina - Reading stamina is so important.  We are working on getting the kids to read 20 to 30 min. at a time.  This will help as the students start testing later this year.

Book Clubs - During Hawktime we are going to be starting book clubs.  We have been learning how to do them properly.  If students do not finish their reading in class, they will be asked to take it home and finish it for their 20 min. of home reading.  This will help make sure they are ready to discuss the pages with their group the next day.

Mobymax - Mobymax is a great place for students to get extra practice with phonics patterns, sight words, lang. and reading skills.  There is also test prep practice they can do.  Mobymax can be accessed through Clever.

Raz Kids - This app is on the Clever.  It is a great place for students to do some reading at their own level.

Writing workshop:   This past week, we have worked on writing prompts and how to answer them.  We also worked on adding the five senses to our writing.

Word work:    This past week our word work was alphabetical order and dictionaries.

Math:   We worked on 3 and 4 digit addition this week.   Next week we will be working on three and four digit subtraction.

Addition and Subtraction Facts:  Students will be given addition and subtraction fact triangles to study at home tomorrow.  Moby max "fact fluency" is a good places to practice the facts.  There are also websites on my Clever page that students can use to help study their facts.  We have started having add. and sub. time tests each Wednesday.

Multiplication facts:  Students should be practicing 2's 5's and 10's facts.

Transportation Changes: If you have any change in transportation,
(i.e. - your child normally rides the bus and is a car rider one day for
whatever reason).  I need you to please send in a note with your child.
I will send this note to the office so that they are aware of the change.

Clever, Sumdog, Epic, Prodigy and Mobymax:   Students have a yellow sheet that they will always keep in their homework folders.  This sheet has login cards and passwords on it.  Right now logins to Clever, Google Docs, Canvas, Sumdog, Epic and Prodigy are on the sheet.    Mobymax is also a great app for students to use to sharpen all skills.  The students have an automatic login to Mobymax through Clever.
