This newsletter is written for the week of January 20th.
Reading Workshop: Reading workshop was put on hold much of this past week due to NWEA testing. So, we will finish the Flat Stanley book next week while concentrating on character traits and motivations, as well as, story format.
Writing workshop: We are working on responding in essay format to two sources. We are reading the sources about a topic, coming up with a main idea, and writing an essay quoting the two sources.
Word work: Our spelling words are end of word blends.
Hawk Time: We are still switching for "Hawktime." Our new focus on Hawktime is main idea. This will be done with a variety of texts. Your child might have a different teacher working with them at this time.Math: This past week we worked hard on perimeter. This past week the focus was calculating area, and then being able to calculate area and perimeter together for a certain shape. Next week we will have a test over area and perimeter on Thursday.Multiplication Fact Triangles: Students received fact triangles to take home for 2's, 5's and 10's. They should be studying these at home. They should memorize these facts within the next month. The students have 6 more facts to study. These are the square facts.Addition and Subtraction Facts: Students have been given addition and subtraction fact triangles to study at home. They should have fact triangles at home. Moby max "fact fluency" is another good place to practice the facts.Free Apps: Math cards and math fact master: speed math are free apps that can help students study addition, subtraction, mult., and division facts.Science: We just started a unit on rocks and minerals. The student are excited to learn about this topic.
Important AnnouncementsHomework - The week of Jan. 20thReading: Students are asked to read 20 min. each night T - Th and turn in a signed reading log on Friday. Students will receive the reading log on Mon. each week.Math: A homelink or a homework sheet will be sent home Tues. and Wed., Test Thurs.
Library: TuesdayJump Rope for Heart - Money is due the week of Feb. 10th - 14th.Gym Class: Please make sure students are wearing tennis shoes on P.E. day. P.E. is every Wednesday until Thanksgiving.Transportation Changes: If you have any change in transportation,(i.e. - your child normally rides the bus and is a car rider one day forwhatever reason). I need you to please send in a note with your child.I will send this note to the office so that they are aware of the change.Clever, Freckle, Espark and Mobymax: Students have a blue sheet that they will always keep in their homework folders. This sheet has login cards and passwords on it. Right now logins to Clever and Freckle are on the sheet. Freckle is a great place for students to go to and do extra math, word work, and reading skill practice. Mobymax is also a great app for students to use. It is just like Freckle. The students have an automatic login to Mobymax through Clever.Background Check - Parents if you want to come to parties and field trips and be around the kids please make sure that you have level 2 and level 3 background checks.Just a reminder that students can access any website weuse in class on my webpage by going to educational websites.Lesson friend is a great website for students to use for a varietyof subjects.
