Reading Workshop:   This week we learned how author's view points can be bias.    We practiced how to look at a text critically.  We learned what words to look for and clues to look for to identify the view point of the author.   Next week we will learn more about point of view with nonfiction text.

Mobymax - Mobymax is a great place for students to get extra practice with phonics patterns, sight words, lang. and reading skills.  Mobymax can be accessed through Clever.

Writing workshop:   We have started our narrative writing unit.  We are starting out writing fractured fairytales.  We are taking a fairytale we know and changing it.  We will then eventually start studying and writing stories that we create.

Word work:    Spelling words this week are contractions.  The students can study their words and patterns on Spelling City if they want.  It is located in Clever.

Math:     This past week we worked on money, measurement conversions and elapsed time.  Next week we will be starting unit 8.
Mult. facts -  Just about all of the students are working on memorizing all of their facts. Some students are practicing their division now.  Every Wed. I'm giving the students a time test.  They really should start to be memorizing these now.  They should have all of the facts from 1's - 10's memorized  by the end of the year.  After a students pass a test, they will get a prize.
Addition and Subtraction Facts:  Students have been given addition and subtraction fact triangles to study at home.  Moby max "fact fluency" and "Xtra Math" are other good places to practice the facts.  There are also websites on my Clever page that students can use to help study their facts.
Free Apps:    Math cards and math fact master: speed math are free apps that can help students study addition, subtraction, mult., and division facts.
