This newsletter is written for the week of September 23rd
This past week we started our mystery unit. The students have done an awesome job following suspects and clues while making predictions of who they think committed the crime.
We are trying to write like a storyteller and not like a reporter. (just telling what is happening) We practiced using strong and precise verbs this week. We picked a story and wrote the whole story. In the next couple weeks, we are going to edit and revise our story.
Word work: Students will be getting a new spelling pattern next week. Spelling City - The students will have their list of words on word patterns on spelling city. They can always work on this at home if they want. They can access it from Seesaw.
Hawk Time: We are still switching for "Hawktime." Our new focus on Hawktime is retelling stories. This will be done with a variety of texts. Your child might have a different teacher working with them at this time.Math - We will have a test over unit 2 next Thursday. We will review on Wed.Multiplication Fact Triangles - Students received fact triangles to take home for 2's, 5's and 10's this week. They should be studying these at home. They should memorize these facts within the next month. I will start giving them time tests on Friday's over 2's, 5's, and 10's.Addition and Subtraction Facts - Students should still be studying addition and subtraction facts.Free Apps -Math cards and math fact master: speed math are free apps that can help students study addition, subtraction, mult., and division facts.
