Allergies & Accommodations

Noblesville Schools adheres to specific USDA guidelines in providing special diet accommodations for students. In accordance with the criteria set forth in USDA Regulation 7 CFR Part 15b, those students who are unable to eat the school meal due to a disability, medical need, or impairment are accommodated. Dietary needs due to lifestyle and religious reasons are important to our school but not a requirement by USDA to make accommodations. We will try to accommodate lifestyle and religious needs through our current menu options.

Nutrition Information and Ingredients

For ingredients and nutrition information, such as carbohydrate content, refer to our online interactive menus. Hovering over a menu item will let you view detailed information about a certain item. An allergen filter at the top may also be used to filter out ingredients containing selected "Big 9" allergens. This same information can be found on our mobile app: "Web Menus." Information listed should be used as a reference; menu items and ingredients are subject to change.

Medical Statement for Dietary Substitutions

There are situations where students need modifications to meals or specialized menus. Each special dietary request must be supported by a statement explaining the requested food substitution and must be signed by a recognized medical authority. The medical statement must include:

  • An identification of the medical or other special dietary condition which restricts the child’s diet
  • An explanation of what must be done to accommodate the child
  • The food or foods to be omitted from the child’s diet and recommended alternatives

If we do not receive a medical statement from a recognized medical authority, your child will receive a regular lunch tray. Medical statements signed by parents or guardians will not be accepted.

Dietary Accommodations within the Meal Pattern

Our schools offer a wide variety of entree choices, fruits, and vegetables to accommodate most students' needs and preferences. In many cases, students do not require special meal modifications; problem foods can be avoided. Point-of-sale alerts are used to monitor students' food aversions and allergies.

Milk Intolerances & Adversions

Milk is offered, but not required, with all school meals. When traditional milk is not desired, there are three options available:

  1. Vanilla Soy Milk - Medical Documentation Required*
  2. Disposable cups to fill at a water station
  3. Purchasing a bottle of water (a la carte pricing applies)

*If a student has a milk allergy, a medical statement from a recognized medical authority must be provided in order to make accommodations.

Point-of-Sale Alerts

Severe life threatening allergies are documented with signed medical forms by the school nurse. This information is imported into the point-of-sale alerts. If your child needs to avoid foods due to religion, small food aversions, or anything else, you must contact the school cafeteria manager.

Allergy Safe Tables

Allergy Safe tables are available in all cafeterias upon request. We highly encourage this use for only very severe cases that cannot be managed at the regular lunch table. For accommodations, please have the student’s physician fill out a Medical Management Form and turn this in to the school nurse.
