Allergies & Accommodations

Nutrition Information and Ingredients

For ingredients and nutrition information, such as allergies and carbohydrate content, refer to our online interactive menus. Hovering over a menu item will let you view detailed information about a certain item. The allergen filter at the top may also be used to filter out ingredients containing selected "Big 9" allergens. This same information can be found on our mobile app: "Web Menus."

Information listed should be used as a reference; menu items and ingredients are subject to change.

Point-of-Sale Alerts

Severe life threatening allergies, documented with signed medical forms, are retained by the school nurse. This information is then imported into the cafeteria point-of-sale alerts. Our cashiers are trained to ensure students are not selecting restricted food items. Soy milk substitution requests due to medical reasons are also noted on the alert system.

Please contact the District Dietitian to request a point-of-sale alert for any of the following situations:

  • Non-life threatening allergies
  • Soy Milk substitution requests (see Milk Intolerances section below)
  • Religious restrictions

Dietary Accommodations

Noblesville Schools adheres to specific USDA guidelines in providing special diet accommodations for students. In accordance with the criteria set forth in USDA Regulation 7 CFR Part 15b, those students who are unable to eat the school meal due to a disability, medical need, or impairment are accommodated. Dietary accommodations due to religious and lifestyle reasons are not mandated by the USDA to be made; however, these needs are typically met through our existing menu options.

Dietary Accommodations within the Menu

Our schools offer a wide variety of entree choices, fruits, and vegetables to accommodate most students' dietary needs and preferences. In many cases, students do not require special meal modifications; problem foods can be avoided and other offerings can be selected. Point-of-sale alerts are used to monitor students' severe life-threatening allergies.

Milk Intolerance & Adversions

Milk is offered, but not required, with all school meals. When traditional milk is not desired, there are three options available:

  1. Disposable cups to fill at a water station inside the cafeteria
  2. Purchasing a bottle of water (a la carte pricing applies)
  3. Vanilla Soy Milk - Medical Documentation Required*

*If a student has a milk allergy or lactose intolerance, a Special Dietary Needs Medical Statement Form must be submitted to the District Dietitian in order to make accommodations.

Special Dietary Accomodations outside of the Menu

In the cases when medical dietary needs cannot be accommodated within the meal pattern, a Special Dietary Needs Medical Statement Form, signed by a medical authority, must be submitted to the District Dietitian in order to provide special dietary accommodations.  Please obtain a doctor (DO or MD), nurse practitioner (NP), physician assistant (PA), or registered dietitian (RD) signature; medical statements signed by parents or guardians will not be accepted.

The medical statement must include:

  • An identification of the medical or other special dietary condition which restricts the child’s diet
  • An explanation of what must be done to accommodate the child
  • The food or foods to be omitted from the child’s diet and recommended alternatives

Once the completed form is recieved, the District Dietitian will discuss available options with parents/students in order to create a specialized meal plan for the student.

Allergy Safe Tables

Allergy Safe tables are available in all cafeterias upon request. We highly encourage this use for only very severe cases that cannot be managed at the regular lunch table. For accommodations, please have the student’s physician fill out a Medical Management Form and turn this in to the school nurse.
