High Ability Program Services

Noblesville Schools defines a high ability student as one who “performs at, or shows the potential for performing at, an outstanding level of accomplishment in at least one domain when compared to other students of the same age, experience, or environment; and is characterized by exceptional gifts, talents, motivation, or interests” (Indiana Code 20-36-1-3).

Noblesville Schools believes many students are capable of achieving academically at high levels. Therefore, Noblesville Schools acts to identify and challenge all capable students through enriched and accelerated curricula.

The Elementary FOCUS High Ability Program
At the elementary level identified students are served through flexible grouping practices or full-time, self-contained classrooms at each school. High ability students are challenged by rigorous curricula and peer interactions, while their affective needs are met in a stimulating and supportive environment.

The Middle School Bridges High Ability Program
At the middle level identified students are grouped for advanced language arts and math. Language arts materials and activities reflect higher expectations for students, and math instruction may address standards that are up to two years beyond students’ actual grade levels.

The High School High Ability Program
The high school offers open enrollment in Honors and Advanced Placement courses in art, business, English, math, music, science, and social studies. In addition, students may earn both high school and college credit in courses through IU (Advance College Project), PU or IUPUI (Project Lead the Way), Vincennes (Project Excel), or Ivy Tech.
