Early Entrance

Kindergarten Early Entrance

Children must be at least five years of age on or before August 1, 2024 in order to enroll for kindergarten. If your child will be five after August 1, but on or before October 1, 2024 they can be considered for early entrance by following the steps listed below.

To best ensure success for all children who begin kindergarten, early admission decisions will be based on academic, social and emotional readiness.

 Step 1:

Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year will open on March 4, 2024

Submit the following required items by May 31, 2024:

  • Kindergarten Early Entrance Application (English)
  • Kindergarten Early Entrance Application (Spanish)
  • Copy of child’s birth certificate
  • Letter of recommendation from your child’s preschool teacher
  • Letter of recommendation from you stating why you believe it is in your child’s best interest to enter kindergarten at the age of four.
  • (Optional) formal assessments of intelligence and/or achievement from an independent evaluator

All items listed above must be submitted for applications to be considered.

Your child must be available for testing the week of June 10th.

 Step 2:

Parents/Guardians will be contacted by Monday, June 3rd to set an appointment for your child’s evaluation during the week of June 10th. Please plan on approximately one hour for these assessments to take place.

Early Entrance Evaluation will include:

Observation of child in a classroom setting (Noblesville Schools elementary building) including:

  • Learning Assessment (early foundational literacy and numeracy skills)
  • Play-Based Assessment (social, emotional, and behavioral)
  • Parent(s)/Guardian(s) Interview (without child)

 Step 3:

The early entrance evaluation team, including the Assistant Director of Elementary Learning, will review each child’s data and communicate a decision to families regarding early entrance by the end of June. Note: All decisions are final.

Please note your child’s school placement will be dependent on enrollment numbers. Your assigned home school is not guaranteed, and the placement will be finalized approximately the second week of July. Once school placements are finalized for approved applicants, families will be notified via email.

Parents/Guardians should NOT attempt to enroll their child until their early entrance application AND school placement has been approved by the Assistant Director of Elementary Learning.

First Grade Early Entrance

Children who will turn six on or after August 2, 2024, may be considered for early entrance to first grade.

Noblesville Schools requires evidence of successful completion of an accredited kindergarten program (i.e.: report card/attendance report, letter of recommendation(s), or phone interview with school director) in order to enroll early for first grade.

If the child has NOT completed an accredited kindergarten program or otherwise does not have evidence of successful kindergarten completion:

Applicants will be scheduled during the summer for an evaluation with a principal, educator, or the Assistant Director of Elementary Learning. The early entrance evaluation team will review each child’s data and communicate a decision regarding early entrance.

Please note your child’s school placement will be dependent on enrollment numbers. Your assigned home school is not guaranteed, and the placement will be finalized approximately the second week of July.

Parents should NOT attempt to enroll their child until their application AND school placement has been approved by the Assistant Director of Elementary Learning.

Move In Early Entrance Guidance

Families who move into the district after the start of the school year and are considering early entrance for their child should follow the steps above and submit an application for consideration. Applicants will be contacted to schedule a time for the early entrance evaluation. The enrollment period for early entrance move in students will close on August 30, 2024 for the 2024-25 school year.
