National Jr. Honor Society: The National Junior Honor Society is a service-learning organization where students are invited to apply based upon academic performance. Eligible students receive an invitation in January/February of their 7th grade year. Eligibility requires students to maintain an A average for the second semester of grade 6 and the first semester of grade 7, with only one B+ allowed within those two semesters. Invited students go through an application process and are then voted in based upon scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character, and service. An invitation to apply is not automatic acceptance into the organization. NEMS National Junior Honor Society follows the national guidelines for selection process. Some students who receive an invitation to apply do not become members. A faculty council of five teachers makes the final determination of which students will become members. Invitations to apply will go out by February of each year, and acceptance letters will be delivered by late April. Members of this club participate in meetings and activities at the end of 7th grade and for all of their 8th grade year. Meetings are held once per month after school.
