Academic Inclusion (Learning Disabilities/Mild Cognitive Disabilities)

The Special Education Department works to make sure all students have the opportunity to achieve their individual goals.  We believe that this can only be achieved by providing each student with the level of support required.  The level of support is based on their individual needs as determined by an Interdisciplinary Team that includes parents, teachers, therapists and administrators.  The case conference committee is a meeting in which the Interdisciplinary Team gathers information and makes educational decisions based on the needs of each individual student.  The results of the teams work is an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

After the IEP is created the support services team implements the current IEP to provide individual levels of support to students, based on the needs outlined in the student's IEP.  Services and supports are provided through a variety of methods:  accommodations, modifications, co-teaching, staff support in the general education environment, small group work outside of the general education environment, and in individual cases one-on-one instruction.  The goal is always to provide services that will allow the student to be challenged, and perform at an independent level, while learning to advocate for his/her individual needs.     For additional information see attached Academic Inclusion Flyer
