I'm not real great at talking about myself, so I had the class write questions they would ask me in an interview.  So here you go, everything you didn't know you wanted to know about me.  Enjoy!
Where did you go to school?

I started at Eastern Pulaski Elementary School, then Winamac Community Middle School, followed by Winamac Community High School, from there I went to Purdue University, and I recently graduated from Ball State University.

Did you get good grades in school?

My grades were okay.  Mostly A’s and B’s when I was younger.  They could have been better, I should have asked a lot more questions!  My most recent grades from my college classes are much better.

What other jobs have you had?

Hazel Dell is my first “real” teaching job.  Other jobs I had growing up included working on a horse farm, a grocery store, a state park, and the dining hall in college.

How long have you been at Hazel Dell? Have you taught any other grades?

I started working here in August of 2005.  It was my first teaching job after graduating from Purdue.  I have always taught fourth grade.  In college, I had experiences in grades one through five.  Fourth grade will always be my favorite!

Why did you become a teacher?

When I started college, I didn’t even think about being a teacher.  After awhile, I wasn’t happy in my major (engineering), so I decided to change.  After a lot of thought, I kept coming back to the idea of being a teacher.  I always enjoyed school and like working with kids, so it seemed like a great fit.  Looking back, I can't imagine myself doing anything else!

What are some of your hobbies?

I love to be outside.  I like to fish and hike.  I spend a lot of time in the woods and on the water.  I also enjoy building and fixing things.

 What is your favorite color?

Black.  Why do students always ask this?  I'm not sure it matters.

What is your favorite food?

Don’t have one.  I love too many different things to pick a favorite!  Favorite fast food places to eat: Chic-Fil-A, Qdoba, and Jimmy John’s.  If I got to go someplace a little nicer, I’d order a steak.  I’m a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy.  I love to fish, but I don't like to eat fish.  Weird, isn't it!

What do you do with your kids when you are not in school?

I try to have some adventure, big or small, with the kids each day..  This summer we went to the park or splash pad almost every day.  We rode bikes and drew with sidewalk chalk a lot.  Some days we curled up on the couch and watched a good movie.  I like to play Legos, trains, and racecars, but also help tuck baby dolls in their bed.  We are all big baseball fans at our house, so we play a lot of backyard baseball.

Do you like to go swimming?

Everybody in my family loves to swim!

What is your favorite holiday?

No contest, Thanksgiving.  Any holiday that's all about family and food will always be my favorite.  The lack of gift giving is also a big bonus.

What is your favorite Disney movie?

Cinderella is a big hit in my house right now, which is cool because I really enjoy it too.  We also watch a lot of Robin Hood and Jungle Book. My favorite Pixar film is probably Cars or The Incredibles, with Ratatouille being a close third.

Other than teaching, what job would you want to have?

I would probably do something working with my hands.  I like to build and fix things, so I might like to work on cars or build houses.  I grew up on a farm and almost continued the family business of being a farmer.
