This newsletter is written for the week of Jan. 4th.
Reading Workshop: All of the anchor charts that I make for class and mini-lessons will be posted on Clever for the students to use at any time. They can use these at home when they are reading.
This week we worked on finding main idea and supporting details. A strategy that we used to find main idea was to ask ourselves who or what is this section about and what about it. There also might be a pop out sentence that has the who or what and what about it in it. We also practiced finding details that fit under the main idea and also using those details to find the main idea. After break we will shift our focus from nonfiction back to fiction. Our focus will be on analyzing characters and their development with the plot.
No Journey's story this week.
We also started reading books and discussing in book clubs. The students concentrated on taking notes and discussing what the characters. Next week the students will read another short book from Raz Kids at their level and discuss it with their group. The discussions will revolve around author's craft.
