Mrs. Mary Glynn

Hello! Thank you for your interest in your child's art program at Stony Creek Elementary. My name is Mary Glynn and I am the art teacher for all day Kindergarten students and grades 1-5. I have been the art teacher at Stony Creek for 19 years!
I graduated from John Herron School of Art, with a BFA in Visual Communication, in 1983. My area of expertise was in commercial art and design. I worked as a graphic artist for many years both full-time and as a freelance designer in Indiana, North Carolina and in California. In 1993 I went back to Herron to pursue a degree in art education. I received my teaching certificate in "Visual Arts",  K-12, in 1995. I was hired as Stony Creek's full-time art teacher in 1995 and have been here ever since! I have enjoyed my career in art education very much and learned so much along the way. Education has changed with the times but my philosophy on art education has remained the same. I believe art education should continue to be an integral part of a well-rounded, 21st century education program that serves to educate the whole child for success in school and beyond. Here are ten reasons art education matters: 1. Arts education can increase student engagement,  2. Children learn positive habits, behaviors and attitudes in the arts,  3. The arts enhance creativity,  4. The arts sharpen critical intellectual skills,  5. The arts teach students methods for language skills,  6. The arts help students learn mathematics,
 7. The arts expand on and enrich learning in other subjects,  8. Aesthetic learning has its own rewards,  9. The arts encourage team work, 10. Many children discover their talents and interests through the arts and are inspired to pursue careers in artistic fields.
Lastly, I would like to welcome you to visit the art room and to have the opportunity to meet you! You may reach me at extension 30226 or by email at: mary_glynn@nobl.k12.in.us, to keep the lines of communication open between us. I hope to hear from you and look forward to working with your child and creating beautiful art work together.
