Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. John McKinney

I grew up in Cicero, IN, and attended Hamilton Heights High School. I then went on to receive a degree in telecommunications from Ball State University. After working in a recording studio for a year, I decided a change in my career path was needed. I enrolled at Indiana Wesleyan University and earned my Secondary English license through their Transition to Teaching program. I came to Noblesville in November of 2011 as a maternity leave substitute, was hired to a permanent position in the English department in the summer of 2012. I'm returning for my second year as a teacher of Contemporary Literature, English 11, and English 9. I'm looking forward to another year with the some of the great students, teachers, and staff of Noblesville High School.

Why English?
I believe effective communication is one of the most vital aspects to success in any facet of life. It is what ties us together as people and allows us to share the human experience with one another.

What I love about NHS?
I've never seen a more cooperative, supportive environment in a school. Everyone seems to get along and there is a great deal of respect among members of this academic community. I truly believe people thrive here because of the culture that's been created.

Outside of school?
As an English teacher, I love a good read, but otherwise I'm very active. At any given time outside of school, I can be found running, playing nearly any sport, working on home improvements, or enjoying time with my dog Max. I'm a Pacers and Colts fan, and despite the harsh words I receive because of it, I love Duke basketball.
