How did the recent state budget cuts affect the district?

In December 2009, due to declining state revenue, Gov. Mitch Daniels directed that the overall state budget for K-12 public schools be further reduced by 4.5 percent effective in January 2010. For Noblesville Schools, that is an additional unanticipated reduction of $2.3 million in the 2010 budget.

Charts A and B (Reduced) below reflect the additional reduction and its impact on the 2010 budget.

The first adjustment made to the reduction of the unanticipated $2.3 million for 2010 was to halt all controllable expenses. On January 12, within two weeks of the governor's announcement that school funding for 2010 would be reduced, Noblesville Schools cut:

• Froze the salaries and benefits of all administration and support staff
• Canceled field trips to save both fuel and salary costs
• Canceled professional travel
