Noble Crossing Elementary School has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s prestigious ENERGY STAR® award, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection.
Based on a comparison from 2008 to 2009, the school saved $137,516 with a reduction in utility costs of 62 percent at Noble Crossing Elementary.
Noblesville Middle School was awarded the ENERGY STAR earlier this year.
“During these tough economic times we have to be more diligent in our efforts than ever. Everything we do will make a difference to reduce the dollars we spend on utilities. Focused attention on every building system and learning environment is essential," said Tim Sturgeon, Noblesville Schools' coordinator for Energy Education.
"It’s been a pleasure working with Performance Services on this project to help us improve building performance and achieve ENERGY STAR at Noble Crossing Elementary.”
To earn the ENERGY STAR, the administration and facilities staff of Noblesville Schools partnered with Performance Services, an Indianapolis design-build engineering company specializing in energy savings for K-12 public schools. Performance Services examined the digital controls at Noble Crossing and reprogrammed and re-commissioned the HVAC system. Schools that earn the ENERGY STAR use less energy than most buildings and release fewer greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. Indoor air quality standards are part of the qualification process that must be certified by a professional engineer.
“Earning ENERGY STAR for the second time this year is very exciting and demonstrates our commitment to cost savings through focused attention. Dollars that pay for utilities also pay teachers salaries so every dollar we save is critically important," said Dr. Libbie Conner, superintendent. "Tim Sturgeon and the entire facilities team have done an exceptional job in this ongoing endeavor. The ENERGY STAR plaque is a tangible symbol of our priorities and strong example we wish to set for our school and taxpayer community.”
“It’s our pleasure to work with Dr. Libbie Connor, Dr. John Atha, Jeff Bragg, Tim Sturgeon, and the entire facilities staff at Noblesville Schools. It’s rewarding to support their ongoing energy conservation efforts and create a quality learning environment for every student,” said Tim Thoman, President of Performance Services, an ENERGY STAR partner.
