How to Prepare for a Case Conference

A Case Conference may seem overwhelming or intimidating to some parents. Here are some tips to consider prior to the Case Conference to help you feel more comfortable during a Case Conference meeting:
➢ Talk to student’s teacher and other school personnel: (counselor, principal).
➢ Talk to other parents who have participated in Case Conference Meetings.
➢ Discuss the evaluation report with someone who can explain it in understandable terms.
➢ Make a list of questions you’d like to have answered by the Committee and take them with you.
➢ Take the HBM booklet with you to the Case Conference Meeting.
➢ Determine your vision for your student: (Will they pursue a High School diploma?)
➢ Take someone with you who knows the student.
➢ Identify the student’s interests in/outside of school.
➢ What are the student’s strengths?
➢ What do you feel are your student’s educational needs?
